Brief History of Orville Baptist Church
Orville Baptist Church began in the the 1800's and was named Baptist Church of Jesus Christ at Gestville. And at that time the church building was located on the Kentucky River near lock number 3. During those early years a tornado struck the church causing it to lean, but this did not slow down meeting together for services. In 1913 the church build moved, under the leadership of William H. Johnson, three miles down the road to 5874 Gest Road, where it resides to this day. At that time it was renamed Orville Baptist Church; however, the membership remained the same. The pastorate was generally occupied by seminary students with only a few exception, some of the most notable pastors were Bro. Frank Thomas (the second pastor at the new location), Bro. Bruce Stivers, Bro. Dave Rayburn, Bro. John Gordy, and Bro. Darryl Treece. Bruce Stivers has had the longest tenure at the church; he ministered to the congregation for 17 years.
